I have had so much fun reading the Budget Fashionista's tips over the years. She has a fabulous book and also a killer blog with all sorts of tips on how to stay fabulous on a budget.
Now in time for fall, TBF will be on Oprah sharing some of her tradmarked tips (read: don't copy them word for word). Tips range on how to not overspend and what your balance of "trendy" vs. "classic" pieces should be in your closet. You can get a sneak peak of them below:

Savannah Fashion Week - May 17 - 22, 2010
I was shopping downtown the other day at Terra Cotta & a cute gal who works there let me know that some of the local storeowners downtown have decided to start a Savannah Fashion Week.
I'm excited and immediately caught up with the events on facebook. Coming soon is a website (I'm told it will be http://www.fashionweeksavannah.com/).
Anyhoo, very excited about all this!

One More Cast Charter Fishing in Savannah, Georgia
Just got back from one heck of a start to my fishing season. Popped out to a SECRET SPOT with charter Captain EXTRAORDINAIRE, Brian Woelber. Brian is the brother-in-law of a good friend of mine, Marsha Woelber and we booked a tip a couple months ago to try our hand with the fish. We were joined by fishing novice, Helen Bacon, who had to beg, steal, and borrow to leave her day job as a lawyer downtown.
The weather was a balmy 72 degrees and the waters were mostly calm. We busted out of Butter Bean Beach and made our way to, ahem, our spot where we spent the better party of 5 hours chasing down Refish with our Carolina Rigs. Our photos speak for themselves -- we weren only able to keep 3 of the fish because the other 10 or so were TOO BIG. Really!
We all had a blast and are considering starting a female sports fishing club. We don't really think anyone else in Savannah is doing one and think it could be a hidden market and really, it would be fun, so why not! We would love to get some feedback so if you see this and are interested, shoot me an email or give me a call.
Check out Brian's website and book him for a half or full day trip-- we all give him two fins up:
The "Airplane House" in Parkside Neighborhood - Listed at $179,900
The classic bungalow in Parkside is garnering lots of attention. Built in the 1930's, the home was named "the Airplane House" and its my hunch that it will literally "fly" off the market as it is a true one of a kind! The homes features amazing casement windows, french doors, hardwoods, exposed beams in the living room, and an oversized fireplace (with insanely gorgeous andirons!). The home is just off of Waters Ave.. in the craftsman neighborhood of Parkside.
The home has a large spacious layout downstairs. The living room is large enough for substantial furniture, a large dining room set, and is wide open to the kithchen. The kitchen will need to be updated but the home is totally livable as is. The two downstairs bedrooms are separated by a hall bathroom that will also need a bit of updating, but again, is totally livable as is. Upstairs is where the drama happens - three mini sun rooms plus a half bath could make for a delightful master suite escape or serve as a creative perch for a home office or guest room.
This is one of my favorite homes currently on the market and at $179,900, it will hopefully fall into the right hands! An owner with a preservation background could have a field day enhancing the charm and character that this home obviously possesses.

Mais Non! French Food in Savannah!
I knew I was in for a treat when my friend, Linda, told me about Papillote. Linda is my first foody friend from Atlanta, the one who took me to my first (and only) five star dining experience and makes me eat the smelliest cheeses you can imagine. Of course I love her for this and am always up for whatever she recommends.
She called me excitedly from her hotel on her Iphone. She squealed excitedly into the phone, "My Urban Spoon ap has told me that we MUST eat at Papillote in downtown. Have you heard of it?"
I had, in fact, heard of the joint through the Savannah Development and Renewal Authority, but had not yet taken the time to explore. But I'm SO glad that I did! The duck confit with caramelized onions, sauteed spinach, and raisins was superb and had the crumbliest crust I think I've ever had.
And I LOVE the way you order at the counter and get to mingle with other diners. I actually ran into a friend from yoga training there and we all got to chat it up and rave about the food. Q'uelle coincidence (I'm sure I butchered that).
So kudos to Papillote and to Linda's "Urban Spoon" for letting me know about it!

I have been following Cedric Smith ever since I saw his first paintng in a home I was showing up in Atlanta back in 2007. There was this so-so house that had a few of his nostalgic paintings on the walls. Lets just say that the paintings showed the potential of the house and led to our contract!
I was lucky enough to meet up with Cedric at his studio in Baldwin Park, one morning right before Thanksgiving. I was picking up his "Cold Lemonade" painting that he had graciously donated to the Telfair Museum's Silent Auction.
He showed me his studio in the attic of the bungalow that he shares with his girlfriend, Autumn. Cedric told me how he used to live in Atlanta's unique Mattress Factory Lofts near Grant Park and how he found his way to Savannah.
I was excited to know that Cedric actually takes some of the photos that he uses for his mixed media projects. Some of the faces on these pieces are actually neighbors' or friends' kids. So, yes, he can do a commission for you featuring a loved one against one of his nostalgic backdrops.

Rejuvenation is a Portland, Oregon based manufacturer and retailer specializing in vintage styled lighting and hardware. The store was born out of necessity--the owners could not find enough period lighting and fixtures to properly renovate their storefront and soon found other homeowners in the same situation.
Rejuvenation began stockpiling original period lighting, doors, windows, and hardware. As they gained momentum in the early 1980's they decided to start up their own manufacturing company and the rest is history. Rejuvenation has built its success of the past but the company has its eyes on the future. Their company is dedicated to becoming carbon-neutral and dedicates 10% of their proceeds back to community organizations.
Check out their website. I guarantee you will spot something that delights you: http://www.rejuvenation.com
Special thanks to my preservation-minded friend, Erin Melick, for sending along the link.

I just had the pleasure of meeting one of Isle of Hope's own artists, Bellamy Murphy, today. Bellamy and I had been talking on the phone for months about the oil on canvas she would gracously paint then donate for the Telfair Museum of Art's Silent Auction in February. Today, I finally got to meet her in the flesh and see her sweet house off Richmond Drive.
Bellamy is a self taught artist who has a way with the brush. She brings brightly colored crab and shrimp to life on canvas as well as more dramatic landscapes and gorgeous jewel toned oysters. These images have become beloved collector items for Isle of Hope residents and non-residents alike.
Her approach is one-of-a-kind way and I can't wait to commission her to do some of my favorite Isle of Hope scenes like my parents' dock, the iconic oaks along Bluff Drive, or another view of Burnt Pot Island like the one she did for the silent auction.
After publishing this post, I must admit I went and bought the crab painting (above) for my Mom at the the Gray Horse in Isle of Hope, soon to be featured!

Turquoise Transports Us to an Exciting, Tropical Paradise While Offering a Sense of Protection and Healing in Stressful Times
CARLSTADT, N.J., Dec. 8, 2009 –Pantone LLC, an X-Rite company (NASDAQ: XRIT), and the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, today announced PANTONE® 15-5519 Turquoise, an inviting, luminous hue, as the color of the year for 2010. Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, Turquoise evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing.
“In many cultures, Turquoise occupies a very special position in the world of color,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “It is believed to be a protective talisman, a color of deep compassion and healing, and a color of faith and truth, inspired by water and sky. Through years of color word-association studies, we also find that Turquoise represents an escape to many – taking them to a tropical paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy.”
Whether envisioned as a tranquil ocean surrounding a tropical island or a protective stone warding off evil spirits, Turquoise is a color that most people respond to positively. It is universally flattering, has appeal for men and women, and translates easily to fashion and interiors. With both warm and cool undertones, Turquoise pairs nicely with any other color in the spectrum. Turquoise adds a splash of excitement to neutrals and browns, complements reds and pinks, creates a classic maritime look with deep blues, livens up all other greens, and is especially trend-setting with yellow-greens.
In fashion, Turquoise makes a statement that can look elegant and dressy in fine silk and gemstones, or casual and fun in cotton and athletic apparel. Because of its versatility, Turquoise is a great accent color in jewelry, purses, shoes, hair accessories and even nail polish for women, and ties, shirts and sportswear for men.
For brides wanting a flattering choice for attendant apparel and accessories on their big day, Turquoise is now one of the nearly 200 PANTONE WEDDING Colors available from Dessy, a leading manufacturer of bridesmaid, social occasion and flower girl dresses, as well as destination wedding gowns under the labels Dessy Collection, After Six, Alfred Sung, Lela Rose Bridesmaid and Sandals Destination Wedding Dresses. PANTONE WEDDING exclusively from Dessy provides a collection of color tools to make it easy for brides to achieve perfectly color-coordinated weddings – from inspiration to “I do.”
Additionally, Turquoise is one of 3,000 colors available in Pantone’s line of superior-quality, eco-friendly paint. PANTONE Paints combine the accuracy of PANTONE Colors with the beauty of high-performance Dutch paints. Perfect for a powder room or bedroom, Turquoise is an evocative, spa-like hue that adds an undertone of warmth and excitement to any cool space. In the kitchen, Turquoise adds a unique flare to tabletop and appliances.

As featured in 7x7 Magazine, written by Narissa Pacio
Jessica DiLullo Herrin is reinventing the idea of your grandmother’s Tupperware party. In little more than a year since founding the costume jewelry company Stella & Dot, which works with sales representatives to market its trendy goods through an e-tail site and at-home soirees, the 36-year-old Stanford Business School grad has propelled it into a multimillion-dollar venture.
Her mission is to help women, especially moms, create their own flexible, independent businesses. “People don’t want to gather in a living room and listen to a two-hour presentation,” says Herrin, an effusive mother of two who previously co-founded the popular weddings website WeddingChannel.com from San Francisco before relocating to Burlingame three years ago. “I was thinking of something much more fun for the busy, drop-by-for-coffee kind of gal.”
Instead of hosting a Sunday afternoon of tea and cookies, Stella & Dot “stylists” ...plan weeknight trunk shows over Evite, serve wine and cheese and use Facebook to network and sell the jewelry, most of which costs less than $100. On average, Herrin says, stylists make $300 on a 90-minute party.
Herrin piloted the party-planning concept in 2004 selling bauble-making kits. After learning the ropes, she recruited jewelry designer Blythe Harris, a former merchandising manager for Banana Republic, who would become Stella & Dot’s chief creative officer.
Harris’ chunky cuffs, gemstone earrings and Parisian-inspired necklaces have snagged a celebrity following (Demi Moore and Debra Messing are fans) and continue to catch the eye of the national fashion press.
So why jewelry? “I have two daughters and I’m quickly realizing it’s an innate thing,” says Herrin, who admits to crossing the finish line at this year’s Nike Women’s Marathon mainly so she could earn her prize of a Tiffany necklace. “It’s an affordable luxury. And all women love sparkly, colorful things.”
